The Dan Ibu International School, the first private school in Wa in the Upper West Region (UWR), is 25 years old.
The silver jubilee celebration also coincided with the school’s 11th Speech and Prize-giving Day during which 54 students and four members of staff were presented with awards for academic excellence and meritorious services to the school.
They took home prizes ranging from books, pieces of cloth, television sets and table top fridges.
The school was established by Alhaji Mumuni Abudu Seidu, a former Member of Parliament for the Wa Central Constituency and a retired educationist, on October 10, 1989 with 41 pupils and four teachers. It now has over 2,000 pupils and students.
The Dan Ibu International School, which literary means "do it first" in Dagari, has maintained 100 per cent passes since its students began sitting for the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
According to the Administrator of the school, Mr Thomas Dumba, apart from the sterling academic performance, the school had been actively involved in the physical, mental and moral development of the children by encouraging their participation in sporting events.
The school also takes pride in the fact that it nurtured Sadat Bukari, a player of the Black Starlets soccer team who participated in the World Cup in Peru in 2005.
Apart from that, it has also produced nine Head of State Award winners over the years, which is the highest number for a school in that region; the latest being the 2013 award.
The UWR Director of Education, Mr Mahama Iddrisu, urged parents to collaborate with teachers in the upbringing of their children.
He asked them to supervise their studies at home and make some effort to provide their basic needs to secure their future.
