It was all joy and celebrations at some examination centres last Friday when candidates finished writing the final paper in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).
Some candidates shouted in excitement, hugged one another and danced as the final bell tolled to bring down the curtain on the examination which began on Monday, June 13 with English Language.
Other candidates also cheerfully wrote farewell messages such as I’ll miss you’ and ‘you are great’ on the uniforms of their friends as they parted ways after staying in the same school for many years.
At the Accra High School Centre for instance, some parents were seen smiling and hugging their children as they came out of the examination hall after writing the last paper, which was Social Studies Paper 2.
In separate interviews, some of the candidates told the Junior Graphic they were happy to have finished writing the BECE without any problems whatsoever.
“The examination is over and I am excited,” Miss Yaaba Andoh of the North Ridge Lyceum said.
According to her, the amount of work she put into the examination had paid off as she was able to answer all questions without difficulty.
Miss Karren Lamptey, also from the same school, said: “All that I learnt came and I am happy”.
For Miss Keiziah Opoku-Mintah, the fact that there were no examination leaks excited her so much.
“I am happy there were no leaks this year,” she said happily.
Master Philemon Okine and Karim Alhassan of the Noree Preparatory and the John Harvaad Schools, said in the course of their preparation they never heard of ‘apor’ and so they were glad the security measures put in place by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to deal with the problem paid off.
