The Canadian International School (CIS), established in April this year with support from the Canadian High Commission in Accra and the Breton University (Canada), has been inaugurated.
The inauguration had the theme: “The Canadian Curriculum: Prospects and Challenges’’.
The school which would use the K-12 co-educational and the International Baccalaureate (IB) system to run the Nova Scotia Provincial curriculum is intended to be the first provider of Canadian education and global child development in Ghana.
Mr Douglas Pitcher, Managing Partner, Director and Vice-President of Geotech Airborne Limited, said the school was established for both Ghanaian and Canadian children to come together to learn about the culture of both countries.
He said the Nova Scotia Scholarship curriculum would help the children to learn different languages, mainly English and French.
He added that it was important that the Ghanaian system and the Nova Scotia curriculum be integrated.
Emphasising the need for children to cultivate the habit of reading, Mr Pitcher said more library facilities should be built to boost the mental development of the children.
The Principal of CIS, Mr Benedict Tetteh Yartey, said the school was built to assist in the education and development of children from the crèche up to the 12th grade.
He assured all parents and guardians that their children would receive quality education and skills which would help them to attain greater heights in life.
The Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr Christopher Thornley, said the two countries had over the years built a strong relationship which had been mutually beneficial, and pledged to strengthen the existing relationship between Ghana and Canada.
