The tour, organised by Kaya Tours, a Ghanaian-owned Destination Management Organisation (DMO), took the pupils to the Air Force Base at Burma Camp, the Accra Zoo and the Osu Castle which was formerly the seat of government.

During the visit to the Air Force Base, the students were taken through the types of airplanes Ghana has and learnt about the various parts of an airplane.

At the Accra Zoo, the children were elated when they saw the camels, learnt about the different breeds of animals and were briefed firsthand on the history of the heads of state who once lived at the Osu Castle.

Speaking to the Chief Executive Officer of Kaya Tours, Mr Gilbert Aggrey aka Abeiku Santana, he said the tour was aimed at exposing the children to the rich culture and heritage of the country.

He said, “I believe the constant patronage of these tourist attractions and heritage sites will draw many there to make sites working at full strength, as well as increase the interest of children in the country’s resources.

The Assistant Headmistress of  the Bishop Bowers School, Mrs Josephine Tettey, explained that going on such excursions was part of the scheduled academic work in the school, pointing out that “we make the pupils go on such field trips to enable them to understand what they are taught in class.”

She also said to make the entire exercise beneficial, the students were asked to write essays on their experiences during the trip.

The Assistant School Prefect, Master Anthony Offei Palm, said in an interview with the Junior Graphic that the trip was beneficial because they learnt new things and stressed that, “ there is no way we will forget the things we saw because they have registered on our minds, especially because it was a personal experience.”

He could not hide his excitement, when he said “this tour has been a bundle of joy and I wish all my friends will have this experience too.”

Kaya Tours specialises in domestic tourism with exciting products to offer leisure seekers, educational institutions, as well as the business community in a bid to promote tourism in Ghana.
