The Akropong School for the Blind has won the third edition of the annual Inter-School Voice Battle 2016 Competition held at the Action Chapel in Accra.
After amassing 94 points as against 86 by the Ghana Atomic Energy School, the Akropong School for the Blind was presented with a gold cup, GH¢300, gold medals for all the team members and five boxes of Indomie.
For placing second, the Ghana Atomic Energy School, which had 86 points, took home a silver cup, GH¢200, a silver medal for members in their team and five boxes of Indomie while the Tot to Teens School, which came third, was presented with a bronze trophy, bronze medals for all the team members and four boxes of Indomie.
The remaining participants; Mary Mother of Good Counsel School, Blessed School Complex and the Achimota Preparatory School also received certificates of participation.
The competition, aimed at creating a platform for children between the ages of 10 and15 to exhibit their talents in singing and dancing was organised by the Youth Link Ghana.
Choral singing characterised the beginning of the contest with the schools performing songs, including Ephraim Amu’s “Yen ara asase ni”.
Judges for the event were Dr Misonu Amu, an ethnomusicologist, Kokui Serlomey, a TV presenter and Edmund Foley the Director of the African Institute for Child Rights Studies.
A member of the National Peace Council, Mr George Amoh, advised the children on the importance of peace by encouraging them to use peace in solving conflicts and understanding the views of others always.
Mr Amoh added that as the election was approaching, children should contribute to violent-free polls and spread the message to everyone.
The event was sponsored by Indomie, Coca Cola, Peace FM, Multi TV, Viasat One TV and Dominion TV.
