Agona schools celebrate cultural festival
It was an inter-schools cultural affair as senior high schools (SHSs) from the Agona East District in the Central Region showcased various cultural performances to celebrate the second Annual Festival of the Adinkanfo Drama Troupe.
The festival which was hosted by the Nsaba Presbyterian Senior High School at Nsaba, near Swedru, was on the theme: ‘’Culture — A tool for Moral Development and Nation Building’’.
The Adinkanfo Drama Troupe is made up of a group of students of the Nsaba Presbyterian Senior High School which won the National Festival of Arts and Culture contest held in Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region last year.
In all, five schools participated in the cultural festival; the Breman Asikuma Senior High School, Swedru School of Business, Odoben Senior High School, Kwanyako Senior High Technical School as well as the host, the Nsaba Presbyterian Senior High School.
Performances such as the Kete dance, dance drama, wood dance, drum language, poetry and a drama on peace and unity were the highlights of the festival which portrayed the various cultures of the country.
The one-day event was full of excitement and thrills as supporting students of the performing schools cheered their mates during the performances.
In an address, the Agona East District Cultural Officer, Mr Raphael Kojo Arhin, said culture was not only restricted to homes and communities but could be found in some subjects studied at school.
He explained that there were some subjects that taught students customs and traditions, and that when studied, could help in the moral upbring of students.
‘’When a leader is familiar with his people’s culture it will enable a good relationship and effective governance which will aid in promoting good cultural development for nation building,’’ he added.
