Christopher John Barry was stabbed at his home in Edmonton on Sunday evening after a confrontation with youths trying to get into a party at another address in the building.

A post-mortem examination on the 53-year-old also known as Jack revealed a stab injury to the chest.

The teenager is to appear at Highbury Corner Youth Court, Scotland Yard said.

Another boy aged 13, and three aged 14 arrested on suspicion of murder are on bail until January pending further inquiries.

Barry, accompanied by a female friend, was trying to gain entry to the flats in The Broadway when he became embroiled in an argument with a group of boys.

He was stabbed after two teenagers followed him into the building, police said.

Ambulance crews attended but he was pronounced dead shortly before 8:40 pm on Sunday.

Detective Chief Inspector Neale Baldock, of the Homicide and Major Crime Command unit, who is leading the investigation, said: "Our initial inquiries have established that there was a supervised party taking place at another address within the block and the group of males were trying to gain access to this.

"The victim and this group were not known to each other. What started as a minor verbal altercation has escalated into a shocking act of violence."
