The abduction of almost 300 schoolgirls in Nigeria has recently attracted the world's attention to the armed group Boko Haram, which claimed responsibility for it.
But the group has a much longer record of violence and kidnappings, targeting schools, police stations and official buildings and killing thousands of people in the country.
