At least 79 people have died from an unknown disease that is causing flu-like symptoms in south-western Democratic Republic of Congo, the health ministry says.

The health ministry says the majority of people who have died are between the ages of 15 and 18.

A seven-member jury has returned a not guilty verdict of 4:3 in favour of Daniel Asiedu, also known as 'Sexy Don Don', eight years after the murder of former Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North constituency, J.B. Danquah-Adu.

On the charge of robbery, four members of the jury said they did not find Daniel Asiedu to be guilty while three found him to be guilty.

Incumbent John Peter Amewu and Thomas Worlanyo Tsekpo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are neck and neck in a fierce race for the Hohoe seat on December 7.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has called for an investigation into claims made in a widely circulated video on social media, which purports to show a voters register for Ahafo Ano 1 and 2 being transported in a white pick-up truck. 

The Commission has clarified that the register shown in the video is not an official EC document, urging the public to disregard the footage.

It added that the visible registration number of the pick-up truck, could assist law enforcement in identifying those behind the misleading video.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has granted executive approval for the upgrade of selected districts to municipalities and municipalities to metropolises, a significant move aimed at enhancing local governance and development.

An open letter from University of Ghana Lecturers for NDC to Ghanaians: Vote for Change on December 7th

The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has denied allegations linking her to the alleged detention of a University of Ghana security guard after a series of videos shared on social media about the incident sparked controversy.

The first video, circulated on social media on November 27, 2024 showed a University of Ghana security guard claiming he had been offered rice and oil as incentives to influence his vote but stated his preference for supporting a different candidate. 

Three key civil society organisations in in Ghana have raised concerns over alleged vote buying ahead of Election 2024.

According to them, both the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been accused of engaging in vote buying.

They have therefore cautioned that such actions could undermine the credibility of the upcoming general elections.

Tullow Oil has provided an update in its Trading Report released on November 29, 2024, revealing that the International Arbitration Court in London is preparing to deliver its decision on the tax dispute with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

The case centers around a $400 million tax assessment, and a verdict is expected by the close of the year after both parties presented their arguments.

In the report, Tullow Oil confirmed that a hearing took place in October 2023, with the court's decision anticipated before the year's end.

Ghana's Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has called on African nations to fortify their domestic legal frameworks as a means of asserting sovereignty and proactively addressing international crimes. 

He emphasized that effective criminal prosecution begins with a solid national legal foundation, stating, a robust legal system at the national level is essential to investigating and prosecuting international crimes independently.
