The atrocities committed by militants of the Islamic State (IS) are developments that well-meaning individuals must dread at all times. However, we in Ghana do not immediately relate to the situation that it could be so close as to involve a full-blooded Ghanaian. That is why we seem jostled about reports that some Ghanaians are noted to have joined the ranks of the IS.
Following media reports that a number of our youth has joined the ranks of the IS, the National Security Coordinator has confirmed that two of our youth are known to have offered their services to the IS. What it means, therefore, is that the phenomenon of the IS is no longer as remote from us as we have deluded ourselves. The fact also does not mean that the presence of the IS is diffused in our country that we should devote all attention discussing the terror group.
