Critics of the New Patriotic Party’s demonstration against the energy crisis didn’t need to look far for the reason why the main opposition party went ahead with the protest, despite the government’s announced plans to solve the problem. For, the government itself has provided the justification on our TV screens – when we have light.

Currently, there’s an imaginative TV advertisement promoting participation in the forthcoming District Assembly elections. A message from the Ministry of Local Government, it vividly reminds people about what happens when they don’t speak up about issues that concern them. 

It shows a barber at work and a client ending up with a terrible haircut because he didn’t check the cutting and tell the barber that he didn’t like the style emerging from his scissors.  In summary, as the popular Ghanaian saying goes, you get a bad haircut if you don’t speak out.
