Telecoms adverts are irritating

It is either the telecom companies and their advertising consultants lack ideas or they are just taking us for granted because they are dispensing products meant for mass consumption.

We are just overcoming the discomfort inflicted on us by the ‘Drop this Yam’ advert by tiGO, and this irritating one from Vodafone is also being given to us. What is this idea of running adverts in pidgin English at a time when the poor standard of spoken English among our children has become a national issue?

What prevents Vodafone from telling its customers and prospective ones in plain and decent language that thanks to a new technology at their disposal their messages come clear and without any distortions instead of this ‘Macho’ gimmick which to some of us does not sell their message in any meaningful way?

The use of an expensive dog of a rich client as an illustration itself creates a discordant note for a product whose usage cuts across all social boundaries.
In any case, if the message is clear, we shall know and the decision will be ours to take.

Kofi Akordor,
Mobole-Afienya.
