Prosper Adabla, a victim of a nation’s ineptitude
A renowned businessman and 1st Vice President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce (GNCC), Dr Prosper Adabla, has become the latest casualty of collapsed buildings in the country.

Dr Adabla was among three people who died after a three-storey building at Cantonments in Accra collapsed on them last Saturday, July 25.
Reports as of Monday, July 27, said 18 other people rescued from the rubble of the building, said to belong to Dr Adablah, had sustained various degrees of injury. Although officials are yet to determine, initial reports from eyewitnesses attributed the collapse of the building to a weak pillar and some other major cracks on many parts of the building
This comes at a time when city authorities and other building inspection authorities seem to have reneged on their responsibilities of ensuring that structures, particularly high-rise buildings, have the full documentation and permit before work is commenced.
Brief Profile about Dr Adabla
Prior to his death, Dr Adabla was the Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of New Capital Holdings Company Limited (NCH), a holding company with a number of subsidiaries involved in Import & Export, Manufacturing, Financial Services, Lobbying and Political Mediation, Economic Research, Business Advisory and IT Services.
Information available on his company’s website described him as an industrialist, a financial consultant and businessman.
He is said to have worked on Wall Street for 15 years serving as a Director for Continental Insurance Company, Vice President for American International Group, Lehman Brothers and Credit Suisse First Boston.
Dr Prosper Adabla holds a BA. in Business Admin & Journalism from the City University of New York (Baruch College), a CPCU from the college of Insurance NY, and a JD from Rutgers University School of Law in New Jersey.
He served as the first African board member of the National Black Chamber of Commerce in the United States as well as other boards.
The Chamber
The GCCI is an association of business operators, firms and industries with interests spanning every sector of private enterprise in Ghana.
The chamber was at the forefront of promoting industrial and commercial interest of businesses in the country.
While serving as 1st Vice president of the chamber, he was at the forefront of most of the chambers activities in terms of advocacy and was always on hand to explain issues to the media when called upon. — GB
