Political parties and peace of our nation

Political parties are the key stakeholders in the December 2016 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections. The Political Parties need to function well and operate peacefully as they engage in the activities of the election.

We should, therefore, pray regularly for the leaders and members of the various political parties and ideological groupings to function in a healthy manner that will enhance the growth of our democracy, promote peaceful co-existence and provide congenial social environment for sustained economic development and the total wellbeing of our people.

Ghana matters more than any single political party. In fact, no single party can fulfil all the aspirations of our people. We need the contributions of all categories of our citizens to move the nation forward to the next level of growth. We must respect one another and seek to live in harmony.

The prospect of peace awaits those who revere God, delight in His word and seek to operate in line with God’s word:

“Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you will live safely in the land and prosper. The humble will possess the land and will live in peace and prosperity”.

(Psalm 37:3&11, NLT)

Presidential candidates

Pray for the Presidential candidates (and running mates) of the political parties

• That they will acknowledge the sovereignty of God over their lives. Ultimately, it is God who decides the person who emerges president.

For, “no power from the East or from the West; no power from the wilderness can raise anyone up”. (Psalm 75:6, REB). It is God Almighty who installs a king. (Psalm 75:7)

• Pray that presidential candidates will have clean love for the people of mother Ghana and their peace.

• That they will be deeply patriotic and promote peace and unity in the land through their campaign messages and private and public activities.

• For wisdom and leadership skills to lead their members in all aspects of political party organisation and public activities for the good of the party and Ghana.

• Pray that they will be able to work well with other key National Executives and leaders of the Party.

• Pray for good health, protection, good physical strength and endurance in their political campaign work across the country.

• Pray that their deep seated mind-set or attitude will be “Ghana Must Win”

Party chairmen and General secretaries

The Executive Directors, especially the General Secretaries and Chairmen are critical in the day-to-day running of Political Party affairs.

• Pray for wisdom in their working out good political strategies.

• Pray for capacity and energy to deliver on the goals and election projects of the party.

• Pray for humility and team work spirit for the General Secretaries and Chairmen.

• Pray for their commitment to peaceful processes and procedures in the electoral process.

• Pray for sound mind, patriotic and “Ghana Must Win” approach in all their services in the party.

Regional, constituency and electoral area executives

Peace in the local communities will hold or be negatively affected by the impact of political activities in the constituencies and electoral areas.

• Pray therefore that each constituency and electoral area executives will carry on their political activities in a wise and healthy manner that will make for peace-building.

• That they will be politically competitive on the ground in an acceptable and honourable manner and with deep respect to all citizens. Ghana Must Win.

Party Members

There is freedom of association in our dear motherland. People are free to hold diverse political opinions and visions for the development of Ghana.

• Pray that party members while maintaining loyalty to the party they belong to will also respect the loyalty of others to another party.

• Political opponents are not enemies. Pray that party members will so live and function in a way that will demonstrate this truth at all levels of their operations. Ghana needs peace to develop.

We must be each other’s keeper. people must live and function with political zeal in wisdom and allow others to function politically too.

Finally, pray that the Lord Jesus the Prince of Peace will guide all the political party actors to carry out political activities in a peaceful and harmonious manner, to the glory of Almighty God and the peace and good of Ghana.
