Newspapers innovate to face competition - Ghanaian Times rebrands

The Ghanaian Times reached another milestone in its chequered history on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 when it was rebranded and relaunched at what the media reported as a simple but impressive ceremony.

Unfortunately, I was not present at the ceremony because information about the rebranding and relaunching got to me too late.

I don’t think I needed any invitation to be part of history. I can’t blame the several friends I have at the GhanaianTimes because I have not been regular at the place where I used to go on a daily basis on my way home.

I also used to be regular at the Press Centre, but not anymore. May be I would have bumped into the editor, Dave Agbenu, the General Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), who certainly would have hinted me about the coming event.

After reading this piece I don’t expect my good friends, Ackom–Asante, Deputy Editor of the Spectator, an old boy of my alma mater, WASS, or Matthew Ayoo, the News Editor of the Ghanaian Times, to feel too bad that I was left out or they could not get in touch with me.

The fault certainly is mine for not keeping the lines of communication going, either through visits, as I used to do, or simple telephone calls to ask them about how they are doing.

Need for rebranding

All the same, I am happy about the rebranding. It has given the paper a new image, a fresh look and hopefully, a new identity.
