ECG, thank you for the convenience

It is really inconviniencing when one has to pay his or her utility bill, particularly when one works in the Central Business District (CBD) miles removed from home and the area where one can find the offices of the utility companies for the payment of bills, and seeking redress to faults.

Usually, it is a Herculean task to juggle the feat of endeavouring to settle bills and trying to beat traffic to reach the office early, when one lives on the outskirts of Accra.

Thus, the desire to reach the office early enough must be sacrificed to wait for the opening of offices at 8 a.m. in the morning to get that done.

Thus, it was a great relief when ECG announced that customers with effect from May 11, 2023, had to pay all their bills via their mobile phones and not walk into any of their offices.

However, I thought it was one of those “public relations announcements” and was not really going to work.

So on Friday, May 19, 2023, I psyched myself to go to one of their district offices at Adentan to settle my bill, having sacrificed my desire to go to get to work before 7 pm.

On entering the ECG office, I was heartily and genuinely welcomed by the security detail, who asked me what I was there for.

Upon telling him I needed to pay my bill, he informed me that bills were now paid via the mobile phone and asked me to take a seat for an ECG official to attend to me by demonstrating how to use my phone to pay.

At that time other customers, were being helped to pay via moblie, while others were seated and were paying on their phones, with visible pleasure on their faces.

My awe was in the fact that just days after the effective day, all the staff there were in sync and were effortlessly making it easy for customers like me to get our utilities settled.

I say a big thank you to staff of the Adenta Customer Service Centre, Dodowa District, and the security detail, who were genuine in their welcome and assistance.

ECG, thank you for the conve­nience. Now one can safely pay without all the stress of crisscrosing town to pay bills.

We hope this initiative would be institutionallised.
