And what can we do to ensure that we are not lost in the flood of life that keeps sweeping us along?
Here are a few
suggestions:
1. Be aware of the danger. If you are not aware of what is happening, it is no use being offered solutions. So the first thing to do to stop life from sweeping you along is to be aware of the danger of being swept along. It is happening to you; are you aware of it?
When was the last time you had the chance to pause and reflect and take stock of your life? When was the last time you got round to doing what you really enjoy doing?
When was the last time you managed to be yourself reading that book you had wanted to read for a long time now. Be aware that life is stealing your life from you.
2. Decide what kind of life you really would want. You are a clerk in an office; is that the kind of life you really want for yourself? You are working in a particular industry, does it fulfil you?
Sit down and rekindle your dreams. What kind of life would you want?
3. Ask yourself what it will take to get the life you would really want. Will it take your going back to school? Will it take your writing an application? Will it take your changing jobs or even career?
Will it take your going into business for yourself? What will it take for you to change jobs or to change career? What will it take to go back to your dreams?
4.Take the necessary steps. You have already asked yourself what it will take to make the change, now take the necessary steps to making the change.
5. Don’t be afraid to start all over. What do you do when you find yourself in a car going to Kumasi when you want to go to Takoradi? You get down and start the journey all over. We do that in most cases in life except with our own lives.
Some of us are aware that we are in the wrong profession and the logical thing is for us to start all over, but very few of us will do that. The majority will simply continue with the wrong profession and struggle with un-fulfillment in their lives.
Don’t be afraid to start all over.
6. Don’t live in regret. You may have regrets for waiting so long; well, deal with that. Don’t allow regret to hold you back.
Remember, better late than never; besides, nothing is ever wasted. You may find that those things you did before have given you something that will help you with the life you want for yourself.
7. Live each day as if it were your last. Today could be your very last day. If it is, is this how you want to spend your last day on earth?
Try to live as today is your last day and you will find a new sense of urgency and purpose for your life.
