Ahh... Ghana is working again! - But who has McDan’s back?
The behaviour of the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Sekondi Takoradi, Mr. Abdul Mumin Issah, leaves much to be desired.
His outbursts, against police officers on routine checks on the municipalities’ roads, that went viral, painted a picture of the impunity of some politicians that is hard to bear.

His audacity at threatening a public officer about his duty is synonymous of some leaders in Ghana, who believe that with the powers given them, they are invincible.
Fortunately, the public outcry after his outburst has resulted in his suspension.
Citizens dearly hope that he will not be smuggled through the backdoor into any other executive position again, but would be sacked!
The impunity, by which some politicians strut about in Ghana must end!
It must end because that breeds dissatisfaction from the masses, and with economic hardships and unemployment, that could lead to people throwing caution to the wind.
The government has redeemed itself by the subsequent suspension of the MCE.
The incident must serve as a lesson to all government officials not to take any Ghanaian for granted.
We commend the Ghana Police Service too for their courage in arresting a government appointee, who was clearly going against traffic rules.
We hope this would not be a one-off incident, but would become a usual feature of our democracy, where no one, not even the President, would be above the law.
Impunity
Another incident, however, that smacks of the impunity of political leadership is the McDan Aviation saga.
The Ghana Airport Company Limited (GACL) raised a number of concerns about the use of a terminal at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) for the company’s private jet operations.
The company launched the private terminal and services on Friday, January 28, 2022, which was boycotted by leadership of the GACL and government officials.
GACL had in a letter on January 28, 2022, directed McDan Aviation to suspend the commissioning ceremony following some alleged breaches, because it had “engaged in several activities without prior approval from GACL which have typically called for emergency corrective actions.”
How come that after the GACL had asked a private company to stop the launch of the private terminal and services on Friday, January 28, 2022, the event came off regardless?
Which “big man” or “woman” is prodding McDan Aviation on, and for what incentive and at whose expense... us all?
We must learn to follow due processes, and leave public institutions to work. Such impunity makes citizens feel cheated.
It is either the GACL slept on its watch, while McDan Aviation undertook all the activities linked to operating a private jet service at the terminal in question, or the latter has his feet on a political stone.
Yes, a big political stone indeed!
