An SOS to the IGP, and a ‘terror advisory’ that Dansoman banks should issue

Recently, news of a possible terrorist attack and general security threats on the websites of some western embassies in Ghana generated a furore before it emerged that the postings were not new. Well, that may have been ‘old news’, but terrorism of another kind is a reality for some bank customers at Dansoman Estate, Accra.

If to ‘terrorize’ means frightening someone by threatening them, or making them feel traumatized, that is what some customers of some of the banks in the estate feel long after an encounter with some rogue taxi drivers operating at Dansoman.

Robbery by trickery by these criminals is apparently a regular occurrence and I think the Dansoman banks should solicit police assistance to protect their customers.

Many customers of the banks along the main street, the Gen Acheampong High Street, have reportedly fallen victim to the robbers. A number of the banks are located near the Total fuel station, part of the area popularly known as ‘Dansoman Mama’s Inn’. When after transacting business in one of the banks, people cross over to the bus/tro-tro stop opposite to take a taxi, if they’re not lucky, they may fall into the trap of the taxi robbery gangs.

One method of the crooks, which others have also reported from other places, is as follows:

When the passenger gets into the taxi, there will be one or two others in it, with one in front, all members of the gang. The new passenger, call her Mrs X, will notice that the front passenger seat has been pushed back so much that it is causing her some discomfort.
