TV3 Ghana News: Do Ghanaians have to endure this?

Perhaps we deserve it because we are a nation that is very rapidly accepting mediocrity and even rewarding it.

The crop of newscasters that TV3 has imposed on us is very fast becoming a burden too heavy to bear. Elsewhere, only the best get to face the multimillion viewing public. And by the best, I mean the best in looks, language mastery, clarity, articulation and delivery. But at TV3, we are given presenters who not only struggle with even prepared scripts but also speak in such a way that the majority of what they say is inaudible. One male presenter in particular has this terrible habit of swallowing the ends of his sentences. Voice undulation is necessary, but not when it results in your audience not hearing what you are saying!

TV3 recently moved one presenter from news broadcast to be a master of ceremonies for one of their major pageants. There, his performance was an embarrassment to all of us. He has since gone back to news. Here, too, his daily struggle with the language and embarrassing lack of understanding of most of the things he  presents have been glaring. But all this didn't stop Ghanaians from rewarding him. That's why I said perhaps we deserve all that this station is shoving down our throats.

Then, there is this female presenter who usually has good stories from the countryside. The only problem is that she has a raucous voice over whose moderation she seems to have no control, and with which she delivers sub-standard English. I don't know who it is at TV3 who decided that once the story is good, the presenter doesn't matter, even if her grammar, sequence and idioms are misplaced.

Still, I think we deserve it all. Don't you agree with me?
