By a popular mandate, the Egyptian people, more than 33 million protesters, took to the streets of most Egyptian cities and Cairo's Tahrir Square to remove the so-called "Muslim" Brotherhood from power. Egypt, my beloved motherland, is a nation of more than 90 million people, the second most populous in Africa after Nigeria.
Most Egyptians, 85 million, are Muslims. And, the vast majority of Egyptian Muslims are against the organisation that usurps the name of Islam in vain.
The vast majority of Egyptians, Muslim and Christian, detest the devilish Brotherhood, who are neither Muslim nor fraternal. This reactionary organisation with terrorist members in some 83 nations worldwide unscrupulously used the name of Islam to trick people to vote for them and to advance their evil agenda.
One of the most frustrating aspects of the disastrous so-called "Muslim" Brotherhood rule was that, utterly ridiculous men and a clownish woman ran the country.
What happened in Egypt was not a coup d'etat. And, that is why the current Egyptian authorities banned the group, which they deemed a terrorist organisation.
We now have an interim government, and until free and fair elections take place, a coterie of the most competent characters. Ministers like my dear friend, Egyptian Foreign Minister Nabil Fahmy, a distinguished career diplomat and academician, and women in the calibre of Information Minister, Doreya Sharaf Al-Din.
These are the professionals Egypt deserves. Egyptians deserve better than the incompetent group of religious fanatics who misruled the country under the detested administration of ousted President Mohamed Mursi and his Brotherhood.
If the Brotherhood is permitted to return to power, all hell will be let loose. The state institutions, the Egyptian military, police, judiciary and the media, apart from the most important religious institutions in the land, Al-Azhar, the Sunni Muslim world's most venerable religious establishment and the Coptic Christian Church disapprove of the Brotherhood who have in their ranks mercenaries from countries as diverse as Libya, Tunisia, Syria and Palestine.
If the Egyptian political establishment, after a disastrous year of misrule by incompetent politicians, is opposed to Brotherhood, how can members of that organisation run a country whose vital institutions are dead against them?
Egyptians deserve better than the Brotherhood. Mursi was elected by default because ordinary Egyptians were fed up with the excesses of the regime of ex-President Hosni Mubarak and the corruption of his hangers-on.
Being Muslim does not mean feeling ashamed of the female physique. That betrays the misogynist medieval mentality of the Brotherhood. The late legendary Egyptian leader, Gamal Abdel-Nasser, spelled it out when he admonished the then leader of the Brotherhood for forcing Muslim women to don the veil of "modesty".
Now, Nasser was an ex-Brotherhood member in his youth, but he dumped the Brotherhood leaders at the time in jail after an assassination attempt. The Brotherhood's chief ideological leader, Sayed Qutb, the mastermind of modern political Islam, died in prison; his dream came to naught and the Brotherhood leaders fled Nasser's Egypt.
When in 1922 Hoda Sharaawi, feminist and political activists, decided to publicly take off the veil of feminine shame, she set a precedent. Thousands and then millions of other Egyptian women followed her footsteps. Sharaawi set a precedent in Egypt.
Those who pretend to be the spokespersons of Islam cannot trick a true believer.
This has become obvious across North Africa as the credibility of political Islam is being eroded fast. Political Islamists are pretentious politicians. Their ideological orientation has nothing to do with Islam. If some women feel more comfortable wearing such a garment, so be it.
The veiling of women is not even Islamic, it is an ancient Jewish custom which was adopted by Christians. The Virgin Mary, venerated by Muslims and Christians alike as the mother of Jesus Christ, is depicted as wearing a veil, as a Jewish-born woman, she probably did that for propriety's sake.
But, the point is that the freedom not to wear the veil must be enshrined in a secular constitution. The Brotherhood has no right to force Muslim women to don the veil of shame of female physicality. Wearing what you want is a fundamental human right and the notion that women who are not veiled are "bad girls" is poppycock.
Towards the end of Mursi's rule, women who were not veiled were physically attacked in the streets and a 13-year-old girl had her hair shaved off by religious zealots. What madness is this?
But the June 30 Revolution was essentially not about dressing; rather, it was primarily about jobs, food and freedom of expression.
Why hasn't the Western media, so critical of the interim government, army and police not noticed that the Egyptian media has been almost unanimously supportive of the army and the interim government? Why does the West turn a blind eye?
Does it come as any surprise that the Western media loudly applauds human rights, but it still does not quite get the true picture, or the Egyptian perspective? Egyptians, the vast majority, do not give too hoots about what the West says.
It is certainly not because the Egyptian media is kowtowed by the military. It is precisely because the majority of Egyptian media workers, like Egyptians generally, deeply resent the so-called "Muslim" Brotherhood: Its incompetence and misrule, its flirting with Israel and Western powers and its dubious political agenda.
The Brotherhood was created by the British, just as Al-Qaeda was a creation of the Americans, except that in the case of Al-Qaeda, the Frankenstein turned against its creator.
Ousted President Mursi turned out to be worse than former President Mubarak. He had to be forcibly removed before he and his Brotherhood ruined the open-minded and essentially tolerant and secular Egypt we Egyptians adore.
