PAYO comprises 26 children handpicked from various schools in the Greater Accra Region.
Under the direction of Kweku Kwakye, the orchestra is the junior version of the famous Pan African Orchestra (PAO) created in 1988 by the late musicologist and composer, Nana Danso Abiam.
PAYO therefore renders a scintillating repertoire of dynamic African sounds elicited from an array of traditional instruments.
The orchestra has performed in various local and international festivals/concerts such as Kiddafest, PANAFEST and Emancipation Day.
It has also collaborated with the Peace Train Band and the Natal Philharmonic Orchestra, both from South Africa.
PAYO will travel to Michigan in the United States in February, next year for concerts and workshops marking the 2015 Black History Month.
