The Kumasi Sports Stadium will today host the Ashanti Region version of YFM’s Loud in Gh concert which is dubbed the Dancehall Explosion concert. It will be followed Wednesday, December 25 at the Accra Sports Stadium where Ghana’s finest Dancehall acts will converge on one stage.

The event is also in line with activities marking the fifth anniversary celebrations of YFM and according to its General Manager, William Nanka Bruce, “As the flagship musical event of Y107.9FM, running for the past four years, it is anticipated that bringing Shatta Wale, Samini, Stonebwoy, Jupiter, and Kaakie together on one stage is definitely going to be one of the best concerts to close the year 2013.

It is expected that the concert will emerge as the final round to determine who the undisputed King of Dancehall in Ghana is.

Another night of laughs

On Boxing Day, December 26, the Accra International Conference Centre will come alive with stand-up comedy acts featuring a range of performers from Nigeria, UK and Uganda. 

It is the Nite of 1017 Laughs and Music which will have on board for the first time, Eddie Kadi who has become a household name within British comedy circles. Eddie has an array of other talents such as hosting, acting and public speaking. Eddie’s innumerable aptitudes will be up on stage to host the night.

The Nite of 1017 Laughs and Music will also feature for the first time Ugandan heavyweight comedian Patrick Idringi aka Salvador who is an engineer, comedian, actor, MC and radio presenter. He realised his comedy talent in 2009 and flies to Ghana to wow patrons in Accra.

Other comedians on the night include Nigerian comedians Senator and Akpors who is quite familiar with Ghanaian comedy fans.

Comedian and Satirist Bovi Ugboma will also feature on the night.

On the music end will come the sensational Efya, saxophonist Steve Bedi and an- all Nigerian boys band Threadstone. The Nite of 1017 Laughs and Music is sponsored by MTN with support from Alisa Hotel and GH One TV.

GH Rocks with Shatta

Come Friday, December 27 at the Accra International Conference Centre, self-acclaimed Dancehall King Shatta Wale will be in action again as he takes the stage at this year’s GH Rocks.

Shatta Wale, formerly known as Bandana, has this year been seen as the hottest artiste who has undoubtedly rocked so many stages and currently has many followers than any GH artiste from all street corners. 

Shatta Wale was lost on the music scene for some years but bounced back to light and fame when he was nominated for Vodafone Ghana Music Awards 2013. 

Ghana Rocks is sponsored by Vodafone and produced by Gh One TV.

Christmas thrills at +233 

The +233 Jazz Bar & Grill at North Ridge in Accra has lined several exciting acts for the Christmas period in keeping with its reputation as the best live music venue in the nation. 

Guitarist Akablay and his Abiza band with rapper Reggie Rockstone as special guest featured last night.

Today, December 24 is an open house jam session with many of the artistes who have played at the venue in the course of the year coming along for a jam session.

It will be a Bonafied Christmas with the great Camerounian bassist, Richard Bona, in the house as well as Kojo Antwi. They will be backed by Kwame Yeboah and his ObY band.

Pianist Victor Dey and Friends take over the stage on Thursday December 26 to be followed by the  Shabo Crew featuring Kwabena Kwabena and surprise guests on Friday, December 27. It will be a night of contemporary dance music.

Other acts slated for +233 are Patch Bay band ( December 28); Irene Logan (December 29); Samini (December 30); Soul To Soul with ObY (December 31); Della Hayes and the Dzesi band (January 1) and Atongo Zimba (January 2).

Kojo Antwi  plays with Richard Bona tonight

Lovers of jazz fused with contemporary popular elements will experience the thrill of a lifetime when the great jazz bassist, Richard Bona features at Kojo Antwi’s  concert tonight, December 24  at the National Theatre.  

The Cameroun-born Bona is one of the best bass players in the world.

 He has played with prominent musicians such as Michael Brecker, Chaka Khan, Tito Puente, Bob James, Mike Stern, Larry Coryell, Steve Gadd, Joni Mitchell, Herbie Hancock,  Billy Cobham and  Queen Latifah.

Last year, Kojo Antwi’s international guest was the Malian star, Salif Keita. 

Fans who make it to the Kojo Antwi show tonight should make room for some great fusion stuff from Bona incorporating styles such as jazz, bossa nova, pop, Afro-beat and funk.

Roverman plays

Roverman Productions presents five plays over five days at the National Theatre to celebrate five years of Uncle Ebo Whyte’s original plays in Ghana. 

The festival kicks off with What’s My Name? on Saturday, December 28 . What’s My Name? tells the story of Dennis who loves courting trouble and using his wits to outsmart everyone. He is convinced he is the smartest person alive.

Sunday, December 29 will be The Last Flight. The play introduces Nash, the braggart; Santo, the customer service manager and Tracy, the stewardess. Put them all together in an airport terminal, add tons of drama and you have The Last Flight.

The Day Dad Came shows on Wednesday, January 1. 

The play explores why love relationships become abusive, why people stay in them and how to turn an abusive relationship around.

Apartment N1 will be staged on Saturday, January 4.  On the eve of the vetting of Ken Nti, a minister -designate, he gets an urgent call that makes him rush to Apartment N1, an expensive dollar-rated apartment occupied by Serwa, a sexy student from a poor home.

What happens at Apartment N1 and why is a senior police detective losing her mind over what she is discovering in her investigations?

Men Run Women Cry is slated for Sunday, January 5. Becky walks into a beauty salon to be made up. It is the happiest day of her life since she is getting married to the love of her life, Yohan. Unknown to her, Yohan is hopelessly professing love to a girl he has just met and has followed to the same salon.

All plays takes place at the National Theatre at 4.00pm and 8.00pm each day. 

Hennessy Club Tour starts at Devino Club

The Devino club behind the SSNIT Hospital at Osu in Accra will on Saturday, December 28 host the first event on the Hennessy Club Tour with top-rated United Kingdom-born Ghanaian deejay, Manny Norte. The session will be from midnight till 3.00a.m.

The Hennessy Club Tour is an offshoot of the worldwide Hennessy Artistry programme which happens in over 40 countries.

The Shisha Lounge, also at Osu will be the next stop on the tour on Sunday, December 29. The Firefly Club at Osu will be the next port of call on Monday, December 30.

The club tour continues on Tuesday, December 31 at the Movenpick from 11.30pm till about 4.00a.m. The Rockstone’s club behind the Police Headquarters will host the tour on January 1 from 12.30a.m till 3.00a.m.

The Hollywood Boulevard at the A&C Shopping Mall, East Legon will have its turn on January 2 from midnight till 3.00a.m. 

The tour finishes on January 3 with gigs at  the Santoku club  inside Villagio (near African Regent Hotel)  from 8.00p.m. till 11.00p.m. and at  Vienna City,  Kwame Nkrumah Circle from midnight to 3.00am.
