Visual Arts and Empowerment Project honours frontline workers

The Visual Arts and Empowerment Project (Vasep) on Friday, December 3 unveiled a painting to honour and celebrate health workers who have put their lives on the line, especially in this COVID-19 era.

The event, which came off at the Oyarifa Mall in Accra, had a lot of artists in attendance with some of them exhibiting their works.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz, the founder of Vasep Mr Prince Kojo Hilton, explained why they decided to use the painting to honour health workers.

"Our health workers have been affected by this virus to the extent that some have lost their lives and Amanowa, which is the name of the painting, is designed to honour them. It is our way of saying thank you to them for their sacrifices.

"Amanowa signifies the arts' movement against COVID-19 in Africa. It is to recognise the hard work and selflessness of health workers especially the frontline workers for their contribution during the pandemic era.

"In my way of celebrating them, I thought of giving out something extraordinary which will serve as history for the next generation. This painting will not be sold," he stated.

In an interview, actor Adjetey Anang who was part of the organisers said he was happy to be part of the project.

"I am excited to be part of this initiative because it is the way to promote what we have as a country. This is an opportunity for artists to come together to push their works and also showcase what they have.

"I think the best thing artists can do is to support each other’s work, using every platform to promote and encourage other artists."

Adjetey Anang also advised young artists, especially the ladies, not to give up on their dreams. "I encourage every young artist out there to be part of this incredible initiative especially young ladies."

Some of the artists also expressed their gratitude for being part of such an initiative to display their God-given talent to the world.
