Founded by Lucky Lartey, a Ghanaian dancer and choreographer based in Australia, the festival focuses on re-invigorating childhood games and creating toys with recycled materials while mobilising artists and performers in the community to showcase their talents and various artistic creations.

Artists and groups lined up to perform at this year’s festival include Lucky Lartey, Weku Kronkon Band, Felix Dompreh (dancer / choreographer), Unik Afro Dance Theatre, Martin Abrokwah (circus biker), Gamashie Dance Theatre, Dance Art GH and Burkina Faso Ensemble.

Tuumatu 2015 will also include activities such as toy-making workshops using traditional techniques with discarded and recyclable objects while encouraging the idea of sustainability.

Other scheduled activities include games like hopscotch, making and flying of kites and playing of Oware as well as performances by acrobats, footballers, bike riders and dancers in the heart of James Town.

Lartey, who started the festival last year, has performed in Australia, Asia and some European countries.

He has also held workshops and seminars in several countries.
