Students mark AU Day with debates

The Centre for National Culture in the Volta Region has held its 4th Senior High Schools Debate Competition dubbed ‘The PZ-Cussons Cultural Challenge,’ to mark this year’s African Union Day.

The contest which featured six schools drawn from across the region, was held on  Monday, May 26, at the EPC Mawuko Girls School Hall in Ho under the theme: Youth Embracing our African Heritage.’

Topics for the debate included: ‘Puberty rites have become obsolete and are no longer relevant in  modern society’; ‘Foreign content on our television screens is an importation of culture and not innovation in entertainment’ and ‘Same sex marriage is a human right issue and not a moral matter.’

The event also witnessed some poetry performances from Perfect Obinim of Awudome SHS (AWUSCO) and Vanessa Kudayah and Jemima Amewode, both of EPC Mawuko Girls School.
