The Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Agyare, has urged business people to site more hotels in rural settings.
That, she said, would open up such areas for businesses and also create employment for young people.
Mrs Ofosu-Agyare, whose speech was read on her behalf by an official of her ministry, Mrs Olivia Opoku Adomah, at the inauguration of NP Plaza hotel at Senchi Junction, near Akosombo in the Eastern Region, thanked the private sector for its role in marketing Ghana’s tourism potential to the rest of the world.
“Tourism can only thrive on the backs of the hospitality industry. When foreigners visit and want to tour, they can comfortably do that when they are assured of comfortable and safe accommodation wherever they go,” she said.
She noted that the hotel industry thrived on good customer service and no matter where a hotel facility was sited, it was important to equip it with such qualified human resource.
Mrs Ofosu-Agyare also reminded hotel owners to tighten security on their premises to safeguard the safety of guests.
She said the recent terrorist attacks in neighbouring countries were a wake-up call for hotel managers to scrutinise guests more critically.
NP Plaza Hotel is a newly built two-storey hotel located in a serene atmosphere along the Senchi-Akosombo road.
the hotel boasts facilities such as a conference room, a spacious car park, well-furnished rooms and adequate security.
