As part of efforts to make theatre an attractive venture for people, especially the youth, Playwright and Director, Uncle Ebo Whyte, has introduced a weekly theatre workshop aimed at unearthing new talents.
The workshop, which is in a form of a competition, also aims to provide the means by which some theatre enthusiasts can show off their acting skills on stage.
The maiden edition came off last Sunday at the Neighbourhood Centre, Osu, in Accra.
Participants in the workshop are divided into different groups where they compete each week to select the winner based on storylines and the professional touch they add to their own scripted stories staged.
The group, Unforgettable, emerged winners at the maiden show.
According to Uncle Ebo Whyte, he initiated the workshop to groom members of the public on how to develop the idea for a theatre play.
He said that would help him to judge people’s interest and knowledge of theatrical works in the country.
“I was impressed with what I saw last week and it shows that the youth is gradually picking up the interest in theatre. This shows that there is light at the end of the tunnel and all hope is not lost at all.
“I was amazed at the storylines and how creative the groups came up with their own scripted plays,” he stated.
He said the groups would be judged on their level of creativity and the moral lessons embedded in the various themes the groups come up with.
Tomorrow, Sunday, July 6, the groups that will compete are Gamers, C4, Fathers Love and Neighbours. They will also show the stuff they are made of when they mount the stage with their own scripted plays.
Like Unforgettable, the group that emerges winner tomorrow will go home with an undisclosed amount of money and a one-year subscription of Rover Report, a monthly magazine published by Roverman Productions.
