The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands came to life last Thursday as diplomats, artists, students, musicians and designers converged to celebrate the first culture and creative night organised by the embassy.
There were performances from students of the University of Ghana dance department, Cina Soul, Calabash, Susanne and Chief Moomen.
An art gallery was set up in the garden to exhibit works from artists such as Ruffai, Isshaq, Yusufand students from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
The Deputy Head of Mission, Ms Cecilia Wijgers said the cultural event was to bridge the gap between the cultures of the two countries.
She said though the two countries had strong business relation ties, they felt the need to extend it to the arts in order to get more young people on board and to deepen the relationship that exists between the two countries.
“This is the first time but we believe that arts and creativity are essential to our relationship if we bridge our cultures. Communication is key and creativity helps a lot to understand each other better either by the spoken word or dance,” Ms Wijgeks said.
Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, lauded the initiative and called for increased exchanges between the two countries to bridge the culture and creativity gap.
