Salsa dance lovers and connoisseurs last Saturday converged on the DnD Lounge, Osu, Accra, for the launch of this year’s edition of the Close up Salsa Fiesta.

A group of spectacular dancers spiced up the ceremony with a splendid display of salsa and other dances such as Azonto, choreographic steps and Highlife.

This year’s competition dubbed, “Close up Freshness Revolution’’ will not only be about salsa dancing steps and techniques, but will also have some Ghanaian dances, especially Highlife and Azonto plus choreographic presentations that are expected to inject some excitement into  the fiesta.

The Brand Manager for Close up, Mrs Patience Oforiwa Mpereh, said “we are glad that Close up is associated with the salsa show”.

She said the patronage of the show, since its inception, had been overwhelming, and added that it had attracted people from all walks of life.

”This indicates that Ghanaians have not only embraced the salsa dance but have incorporated it into other dances,” said Mrs Mpereh.

She noted that salsa had been one of the most popular dances of our time and that had established the fact that the world had now become a global village and Ghana was no exception.

The salsa competition, since its debut, has provided lessons for individuals from different cultures who have moved on to become professional dancers.

Mrs Mpereh said creative salsa dance steps would be uploaded onto Close up social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter for interested people who may not participate in the competition to access and learn.

She said downloading the dances from social media would give forehand information to people who were interested in the fiesta before the competition was held in Kumasi, Takoradi and Accra.
