At MTN Carols Night
It was the fourth year running and the MTN Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols managed to once again last Friday, pull a sizable audience to the Accra International Conference Centre.

The Christmas season is always a period of cheer. So it wasn’t difficult getting nearly everyone in the hall to feel lifted up as biblical passages were read by personalities of varying backgrounds and performers with different approaches did their best to entertain the audience.
It was a night of mixed offerings in terms of the performances. Actor, Ben Kwadey, and his posse put on dramatic sketch while the Fishgate Drama Group also brought on a choreographed dance piece and topped it up with a short dramatisation of the birth of Christ.
One of the most impressive acts on the night was the Viva Voices Choir of MTN. It is not known how long that bunch of MTN staff took to prepare for the show but they sang really well and truly deserved the big round of applause they got at the end of their bit.
It appears Bukom Banku and Ayitey Powers already know what they would be doing when their boxing careers are over. Riding on the wave of their current popularity, the two men were well-received for their joint act of dancing, singing and rapping.
Banku’s bit did not have any element of Christmas or carol about it but he was, all the same, cheered on by the crowd.
Boadiwaa, Kbee, Samini Snow B, Torgbe and Raquel all had their turns with backing from the El Dunamis Choir and Dan Grahl’s High School band before Kwaku Gyasi rounded off everything with a rousing medley of well-known gospel pieces.
The emcee duo of Joslyn Dumas and Jerry Adjorlolo, tried their best but were not particularly enchanting, as they sometimes assumed the crowd was there more to hear them talk rather than see a show.
MTN has done well to sustain its Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols for the public, many of whom would readily attest that the last couple of shows offered more excitement than this year’s and would therefore look forward to something more stirring next year.
