YFM launches 10 years anniversary celebration

IN a country whose airwaves is 'flooded' with radio stations, surviving for 10 years in the business is no joke. Thus YFM’s existence for a decade has been due to hard work and dedication says Eddy Blay, Programmes Manager of the station.

According to Eddy Blay, since the airwaves was liberated, a number of radio stations have fallen along the way but YFM stood tall.

“The journey has not been easy especially at the beginning but the hard working presenters kept  pushing and  YFM as  we speak now is one of the most listened to radio stations” Eddy Blay said at the launch of the 10th Anniversary Celebration of YFM dubbed Y@10 last Friday, June 29 at the Accra Mall.

He added that YFM which organises events like Area Codes, Slum Invasion and Loud in GH has created platforms for young musicians’ to exhibit their talents.

“I think the station has done well by supporting up and coming artistes and also hosted a lot of events for the youth. 10 years in the business is no joke and we ask Ghanaians to watch out for us for more” he added.

In a speech at the launch, Mr. Ernest Boateng, CEO of Global Media Alliance Group, operators of YFM said since the establishment of the station, it has climbed the media ladder of success, becoming the number one youth station in Ghana currently, making the YFM brand a very powerful one.

“10 years ago, some great minds in the industry conceived and birthed the idea that has over the years become Ghana’s number one music station.

"Since the station was established by the Global Media Alliance (GMA) Group in 2008, YFM has grown to become the most listened to youth and urban station in the country.

"The station has climbed the media ladder of success, becoming the number one youth station in Ghana currently,” Mr. Boateng said.

“Also, YFM has over the years groomed and trained various individuals who are currently working with other brands across the country. YFM looks forward to training and churning out more professionals for the industry,” Mr. Boateng added.

He commended staff, management and clients of the station who he described as hardworking and dedicated for making the 10-year journey an exciting and intriguing one.

He revealed that as part of the Y@10 celebrations, there willbe 10 major events including some Corporate Social Responsibility activities, with the biggest one happening at the end of the year.

Other activities lined up to mark the 10 milestone of the radio include Area Codes, Slum Invasion,Loud in GH among others.

The launch was graced by some YFM presenters including Caroline Sampson, Nokus, Ms Naa,  DJ Killer Fingers and musicians such as Pappy Kojo, Kuami Eugene and  Kidi.
