The competition is out there —Big Ghun to colleagues

RAPPER Big Ghun has called out the new crop of artistes who have been using hype to attract attention in Ghana to rather look beyond the shores of the country because the real deal is all about global competition of quality music.

Music has become competitive and it is high time Ghanaian artistes stopped being ‘local champions’ and instead did music that appealed to global audiences.

“The likelihood to be complacent or feel on top of the world is high when you don’t explore beyond Ghana. Unfortunately, that seems to be the problem of Ghanaian artistes. Once we have one or two hit songs in Ghana, we are content and don’t work to cross borders missing the many opportunities out there.

“Times are changing and it is not just enough to be famous in your country. Fortunately, Ghana boasts of such great talents that can do well in every part of the world. We just need the confidence to boldly step out to the rest of the world to sell not just our music but our culture as well”, he said.

Big Ghun’s career in music began in Senior High School when he started recording demos as a member of a rap group called Young Khalibenz.

The graduate of the National Film and Television Institute (NAFTI)’s gave professional music a shot in 2019 and got signed on to Hiplife artiste TiC’s TNR Music the following year. He released a number of songs including Walk Off featuring TiC and Bombastic with Zeal of VVIP fame.

“I was doing music but not professionally until I met TiC through online marketing. Back then, I was known as Kobby Stone but he suggested changing to Big Ghun to redefine the direction of my brand”, he said.

Big Ghun who released his Fame EP last year was honoured at the maiden edition of Ghana Tertiary Awards in 2018 for his contribution to the music industry as a student.
