Solomon Sampah goes on final journey

Actor, Solomom Nii Otokunor Sampah who died in Accra last January at the age of 70, will be buried on Saturday, April 30 at Dome-Sampaman, near Adjen Kotoku in the Ga West Municipal District of the Greater Accra Region.

Popularly known as Pap Solo, Paa Solo, Quench Walahi, Sampah was an all-round performer. He was a singer with Slim’s Traditional Band and and a dancer/singer with the Anansekromian Sounds of the erstwhile National Folkloric Company.

The man was also an actor with the National Drama Company formed in the early 1960s and also with the Abibigromma where he retired a few years ago.

He played congas and assorted percussion for the Amartey Hedzoleh Band which recorded the soundtrack for King Ampah’s famous Kukurantumi: Road To Accra film in 1983. He was for sometime, the Welfare Officer of the Ghana Actors Guild. 
Identified by his prominent grey beard, Sampah featured in a number of popular advertisments.  Among them was the one for 'Original Hacks' and that of the Quench drink that earned him the “Quench Walahi” nickname,

The veteran actor also starred in several Ghanaian plays, movies and television series. He was in the  the hugely popular Ultimate Paradise series on GTV and the late Saka Acquaye’s stage musical,  The Lost Fishermen in which he played the lead roles together with the late Nii Odoi Mensah.

Sampah’s funeral is a three-day affair. It starts today, April 28 with customary rites at the Dome-Sampaman royal house which involves only close family members.
Wake and various performances would be held tomorrow, Friday, April 29 from 6.00pm till daybreak. He will be finally laid to rest on Saturday, April 30.

The late Solomon Sampah was one of the elders of the Dome-Sampaman royal family. He was survived by a wife and eight children.
