ShattaStone is a nine days’ wonder — Industry players

Although Dancehall artistes, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, say they have ended their feud and are collaborating on a unity concert dubbed Ghana First, not everyone is buying into the truce.

On Tuesday, June 4, the two, at a press conference held at the Marriot Hotel, confirmed they had smoked the peace pipe and were ready to move on.

Last week, the two released pictures on social media indicating they had made up, and at the press conference it was all lovey dovey between the two.

However, not everyone believes that everything is kosher between the fierce rivals, with some industry players telling Showbiz that it will be a nine days’ wonder, while others say it is a business agreement.

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, who have been at each other’s throat for years, clashed at the recent Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Their actions led to their arrest and prosecution, while they were banned by the VGMA Board and also stripped of their awards.

Although Hiplife musician, Tinny said the reunion was a positive move, he wasn’t sure the fans of the two artistes would accept it.

According to him, the fans would forever be divided because Shatta Wale’s fans could never support Stonebwoy’s.

“I, for instance, will never unite with my rival if I am not getting anything in return. Although the reunion is positive, there is more to it,” Tinny said.

Sound engineer, Wei Ye Oteng (real name Justice Oteng), said there was no way the reunion between Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale would last.

“First of all, the reunion is because of the court issue and, secondly, the two artistes want to cash in on the concert they have ahead, fronted by Dr Kofi Abban.

“Once those things are over, they will go their separate ways and continue their ‘beefing’. Don’t forget it took money to bring the famous group Wutah together, but once the cash was no more, they went their separate ways,” he stated.

Oteng, who has worked with artistes such as Trigmatic, Joyce Blessing, Obrafour, A Plus, Barima Sidney and Noble Nketia, said he hoped the Shatta and Stonebwoy truce would work out, though.

“It is my prayer that the reunion is real, which I doubt. NAM1 (Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of ZYlofon) tried to resolve the differences between the two artistes but it never worked. Let’s see what the future holds,” he added.

For another Dancehall artiste Osagyefo, the reunion was not real and he did not see it lasting.

Osagyefo noted that the hatred between Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy was real and no one should be deceived that the reunion would change anything.

According to him, there were a lot of things that needed to be ironed out between the two artistes and he believed that that had not been done yet.

“But left to the two, this reunion would not have happened because Shatta Wale thrives on controversies. I only wish they would sit down and trash out issues because the reunion is just for showbiz,” he said.
