Selly: Long road to travel

For one whose long cherished dream was to host  a TV Show,  former Big Brother Africa housemate, Selly seems to have got exactly what she wished for - host of The Premieres Show  on Joy TV.

“I had been chasing that dream for a very long time but surprisingly, the exposure from BBA opened bigger opportunities for me. Now, I host The Premieres on Joy TV and that platform has even given me a bigger audience in Africa”, she told Showbiz on Tuesday.

Alongside her regular  television appearances, Selly has  featured in a number of movies yet to be released. At the recently held Pan African Awards in Togo, Selly made herself proud when she won the Best Supporting Actress for her role in the movie, In Six Months Time.

Prior to that award, Selly had earned a nomination for Most Promising Actress at last year’s City People’s Awards in Nigeria.  Her favourite movie, she said, was African Child  in which she played the role of an orphan.

“I love that movie very much because it depicts the suffering orphans and the less privileged in our society go through. That movie inspired me to set up my African Child Foundation and  to raise funds to cater for the needs of such vulnerable people in the society. I am happy that by God’s grace, I can also put smiles on the faces of people”.

As a young lady working hard to make an impact in her field of endeavour, Selly admitted her journey to fame hasn’t come on a silver platter.

“Sometimes, you want to give up but you take inspiration from the people around you and you are like, ‘I can’t let them down. They look up to me so I need to fight on despite the challenges’”.

Recently, Selly has had to deal with comments   in showbiz circles that she had become rude. “I don’t know where these comments come from but the truth is that, people who know me are still surprised that I haven't changed from the down to earth, funny person I am. That is my personality, bubbly and outgoing so I’m really surprised at these comments when I hear them,” she said.

According to the former Miss Ghallywood queen, perhaps, her decision to be selective with the events she attends and how she behaves when in public now may have warranted the “arrogant tag”.

“Even though I mingle freely with people more now, I’m very particular about what I say and do in public. It’s not all about me now because I have many young people who look up to me as a role model so I need to put up a good behaviour in public.
