Obaapa Christy receives cash, car, land at concert

'TWAS an event to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Gospel musician Obaapa Christy’s music career and sure was she celebrated.

At the end of the exciting concert, she received cash, pledges of more cash, a car and land among others to mark her 20th mileston .

In addition to her colleagues in the Gospel music fraternity who came to the auditorium of the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) last night in their numbers, the Hyebre Sesafo hit maker also had the support of politicians, businessmen, traditional rulers from across the country, pastors from Ghana and the United States of America and hundreds of her fans.

When Gospel minister and singer, Apostle Oko Hackman mounted the stage, his mission was to raise funds for the construction of a music studio and procuring a van and instruments for Obaapa Christy’s ministry.

Although a fundraiser was not advertised as part of the programme outline, the feedback from the audience looked like they prepared for such an activity.

Madam Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, Chief of Staff; Mr Alan Kyerematen, Minister of Trade and Industry of Ghana and Mr Samuel Amo Tobbin, Chief Executive Officer for the Tobinco Group of Companies donated GHc15,000, GHc10,000 and GHc20,000 respectively to Obaapa Christy.

There were donations from Rev Dr Abbeam Ampomah Danso, CEO of Abbeam Group of Companies, actress Nana Ama McBrown, Oheneyere Mercy Asiedu, Richard Brown (Osebo the Zara Man) owner of 247 Boutique, Kumawood actors Salinko and Big Akwes, traditional leaders, pastors and many business moguls.

In addition to his cash donations, the CEO of Esuman Motors pledged to support Obaapa Christy's ministry with a car with one of the traditional leaders in attendance pledging a piece of land.

One would have thought that with the following day being a working day, many people would have been in a hurry to go home but they stayed throughout the show, dancing to performances from acts of the night.

Performers at the concert were Prof. Kofi Abraham, Francis Amo, Celestine Donkor, Joyce Blessing, Noble Nketia and Piesie Esther.
