Nii Okai encourages young gospel acts not to seek fame

Well-known Ghanaian gospel music singer, Nii Okai is encouraging up and coming artistes not to seek fame since that will be a likely impairment to their rise.

In a recent interview with Graphic Showbiz, Nii Okai who is known for songs such as ‘Moko Bɛ’, ‘Yesu Hi’, ‘Reign Forever’ among others entreated new gospel music entrants to be themselves and not compete with anyone.

He mentioned that God rewards faithfulness with success and entreated gospel artistes to invest in young talents.

 “You don’t have to be like everybody else. If you seek fame, you will fail, if you seek faithfulness, you will succeed. If you invest in others on behalf of God, He will eventually invest in others on your behalf,” he noted.

Nii Okai will be holding a concert dubbed, Mokobe@20, to mark 20 years of doing music at the ICGC Zoe Temple in Tema on Sunday, September 17.

Artistes billed for the show are Joe Mettle, KODA, Eugene Zuta, MOGmusic, Kofi Karikari, Naa Mercy, David Osabutey, Lordina the Soprano among others.

According to Nii Okai, gospel singers publicised for the show were carefully selected to mark milestone having been part of his success story in the last two decades.

“I’ve groomed a number of musicians who are doing very well now and I’m always proud of their exploits. As such, this concert, which is quite instrumental in my career and story as a musician will afford me the opportunity to have all of them on a stage,” he stated.

Nii Okai came to the limelight in 2003 when he released his first album Moko Be, an eight-track music album produced by KODA.

The album which featured the likes of the late Danny Nettey, Nana Yaa Amihere, produced popular songs such as Woana Na and Moko Be.

Nii Okai currently leads Harbour City Mass Choir (H.C.M.C.), an inter-denominational music ministry based in Tema, Ghana.
