“Although I am aware of how difficult the competition will be, I believe I am capable of winning," she said.

Subsequently, Ms Melissa asked Ghanaians to rally behind her as she puts Ghana on the map.

"I am scheduled to depart on December 17. I will go through various sub competitions and then the finale is scheduled on December 27. I am not only working hard to win but also to make Ghana proud and show the world that not only beauty is birthed in Ghana but also purpose driven people who are changing society in a more impactful way.

"Therefore, I plead with and encourage all Ghanaians to help me bring the crown home. At various stages, there will be voting, I am hoping that everyone will cast at least one vote in my favour in order to help me win the crown. DSTV channel 198 will offer viewing access for the entire competition,” she said.

The Miss Africa Calabar pageant is an initiative of Nigeria’s Cross River State Government to showcase Nigeria and African culture in general.

This year’s event is the 6th edition and it will host over 30 African beauties and brains across Africa.

Ms Melissa is a graduate of Central University with a Bachelor’s Degree in law.

At age 17, she founded a magazine dubbed “Teen Voice”. This was a platform created to give a voice to young adults to be heard and display their talents.
