Love is sweet - Jay Ampofo sings on latest Alewa

The theme of love is one that singer, Judith Afua Ampofo likes to address in her music. A number of her songs such as Ma Shoor bo, Kaa Shi Mi, Phone Call and Yen Ko Bisa have been great vessels the singer has used to address her definition of love.

In January this year, she took listeners on a love ride with ‘Lamborghini’ and just when they are “soaking” the song, the graduate of the Accra Technical University College returns with a new tune which she calls Alewa.

Alewa is a Ghanaian word for a locally homemade candy. It is very colourful and makers blend the colours and ingredients in a way that makes it attractive and sweet.

Just like how sweet the Alewa toffee is, Jay Ampofo sings about how love can be made to be attractive and sweet like Alewa when the parties involved make mindful efforts at achieving it.

Produced by Genius Production and kryucifix beatz, the Afrobeats tune released on Monday, April 10 similarly encourages music hearers to appreciate the fullness of love.

In a conversation with Graphic Showbiz, Jay Ampofo mentioned that her latest piece is meant to encourage couple to always work at the love they share.

“We always say that love is beautiful, sweet and all the nice things that people in love want to appreciate but it is also not out of place to let people know that love is deliberately sustained.

“It’s not enough to say you are in love or love someone but must also note that constant  reassurance of the love through actions is key and Alewa is a gentle reminder of that,” she said.

A graduate of the Accra Technical University and Central University, Jay Ampofo is also an actress who has featured in movies such as Devil in the Dress and local TV drama, Abiba.

Last year, she started the Delicious Jay on YouTube which is gradually picking up.

She told Graphic Showbiz that women have not be given a rightful place in the music industry and looking forward to the day when female musicians will be appreciated beyond sex symbols in the industry.
