Let The Political Music Begin

On whether he did not think his open declaration on partisan politics could affect his music career in any way, Kwabena Kwabena, whose wife works as a secretary to Nana Addo, said so long as he maintained his belief in God and continued to do good music, he had no problem recording a song for Nana Addo.

Lucky Mensah’s songs, recorded by Ro-Ro, talk about the good work the NDC has done since coming into power in 2009 and urges Ghanaians to give the party another chance to rule. The songs are Forward Ever, Follow Me To Mahama, Monto Ma No, Yebeto Ama Matuaso and Atta Beye.

The Come Back To Me hit-maker explains in the songs that the Better Ghana Agenda which has brought positive things like the school feeding programme, employment, increment of salaries and good roads, are enough to convince Ghanaians to vote for Mahama on December 7.

Some of the lyrics in Follow Me To Mahama go like: Follow me to Mahama and you will see the difference. Some time ago we were suffering but now everything is okay.

In 2008, Lucky Mensah campaigned for the NDC with his Come Back To Me song which was widely received as a call to the electorate to take power from the NPP and let it “come back” to the NDC.

About Half way through the late Prof. Mills’ administration when Lucky Mensah’s expectation of a reward for his efforts seemed not to have been met, he came up with a single, Nkratoo a thinly- veiled criticism of President Mills.

Though he consistently records pro-NDC songs, Lucky insists that he is not a politician and that his services as a musician are always available for anybody ready to pay.

Kwabena Kwabena, on the other hand, told Showbiz that he did not take any money from the NPP for his new song for Nana Akufo-Addo but sees the music as his widow’s mite to help bolster the campaign of the candidate he believes can truly move Ghana forward.

“ I’m totally convinced that Akufo-Addo is the best for this country. Together with Daddy Lumba, we hope we can send a message to all about Nana’s suitability,” Kwabena Kwabena said.
