Imajin Advertising, organisers of the annual Legends and Legacy Ball that honours outstanding Ghanaian musicians, has called off this year’s event.
Mr Kojo Soboh, Events and Promotions Manager, at Imajin Advertising told Showbiz over the weekend that the ‘special thank you’ edition scheduled for December 29 at the Accra International Conference Centre(AICC) won’t happen anymore due to the shortness of time to allow for adequate preparation towards the type of excellent productions they are known for.
The LAL Ball series started in 2011 and had always been held in November. However, it was only last week that Imajin Advertising came out to say that this year’s show would come off on December 29 and that no new artiste would be honoured.
Instead, three of the previously celebrated stars: Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede and AB Crentsil were to perform at the programme to thank music fans for their support for the LAL Ball.
“We want to pull this year’s show off and come back next year with something spectacular for the fans,” Mr Sobor said about the December 29 cancellation.
A music fan in Tema who has not missed any of the LAL Ball events, Sally Asante, said she was disappointed to know there won’t be any show this year.
“I have been looking forward to the LAL Ball as one of my must-attend shows since it started. That’s because I get to see so many stars perform on the night. I sincerely hope we have not seen the last of it,” Ms Asante stated.
Another music lover at Anyaa in Accra, Nana Nyarko Quashie, felt it was prudent on the part of Imajin Advertising to call off the show because he didn’t see why those who had been already honoured were being brought back for a so-called ‘special thank you’ event.
“Imajin Advertising itself acknowledged recently that there are many more legends that can be celebrated so what is this thing about bringing back Lumba, Amakye and AB?” Mr Quashie asked.
“If they have run out of funds to organise the show, they must tell us.”
Daddy Lumba was the first musician honoured at the LAL Ball in 2011. The mantle fell on Amakye Dede in 2012 followed by AB Crentsil in 2013. Kojo Antwi took the spotlight last year.
