I didn’t want Man City to win Champions League final – Burna Boy

While Africans and his fans across the world were cheering him up for making history as the first African artiste to perform at the UEFA Champions League finals last Saturday night, Grammy winner and famous Nigerian artiste, Burna Boy’s only wish was to see Manchester City fail at their first attempt at winning the trophy.

Manchester City beat Inter Milan 1-0 to clinch their first-ever Champions League trophy in Istanbul, Turkey, yesterday, June 10.

Speaking with Paramount+ shortly after the game, the artiste, real name, Damini Ogulu said he didn’t want City to win because he is a fan of their rival, Manchester United.

“This was most amazing thing, even though I honestly didn’t want City to win for sentimental reasons, it’s okay. It is amazing performing at the UCL final,” he stated.

Burna Boy thrilled fans with a medley of his hit songs ‘Last Last’ and ‘It’s Plenty’ at the kickoff show powered by Pepsi at Ataturk Stadium, minutes before the start of the UEFA Champions League final between the Italian giant Inter Milan and the Premier League champions, Manchester City.

Burna Boy performed alongside Brazilian singer Anitta, as fans jumped off their seats in excitement.

While many people particularly Africans are on could nine for the feat, Dutch legend Marco Van Basten has rather criticised the pre-UEFA Champions League performances of musicians Burna Boy and Anitta.

The former AC Milan forward said that the entertainment prior to the start of the game was “crazy” and that “no one comes to the stadium to see this.”

He said that the pre-match activities were a waste of time and that fans should be watching the football instead.

“It’s crazy that this show is happening,” Van Basten said. “No one comes to the stadium to see this. People go to watch football, not this.”
