Nana Yaa

Highlife rules at Club Live show

A lot of beer flowed and so did music from Nana Yaa, Kofi Nti, Kyekyeku and Okyeame Kwame last  Friday, August 28, at Accra Brewery Limited’s (ABL) fourth Club Live event at the +233 Jazz Bar and Grill in Accra.

ABL continually comes up with innovative programmes to promote its products. Club Live, which took off last Easter at the Modak Royal Hotel at Kwahu Pepease in the Eastern Region, has also been staged at the Bermuda Night Club and Alliance Francaise, both in Accra.

Artistes featured at the previous shows include Ofie Kodjoe, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Amakye Dede,  Akosua Adjapong,  Kwabena Kwabena, Samini and Kofi B.

“The primary aim of Club Live is to promote Ghana’s iconic beer and also revive and project Ghana’s iconic music which is highlife. We need to put in all the effort we can to bring it to the fore again,” says Master Richard, host of the show.

That prodding might have been on Nana Yaa’s mind as she delivered six songs in her own stylish way. Kicking off with a track she co-wrote with Kwame Yeboah called Kyere Me, she captured the hearts of the audience with some engaging vocals.

She then did  Gyae Su originally recorded by her father, Pat Thomas; Sarkodie’s Adonai; Serwa Akoto written by the late PK Yamoah; Emirika by Kojo Antwi and rounded off her session with  Sika Ye Mogya by Pat Thomas.

With  low-cropped hair, loads of bangles on her left hand and an eye-catching neckwear of  beads, pearls and cowries, Nana Yaa amply demonstrated why she is qualified to be rated among the best singers in this country at the moment.

Kofi Nti, Kyekyeku and Okyeame Kwame also came on later to help prove that highlife is still a vibrant brand of music here.

The next Club Live event has been slated for the Fetu Afahye at Cape Coast this weekend with performances from Paapa Yankson, Bisa K’Dei, Kofi Kinata and Pat Thomas.
