Govt committed to creative arts industry

THE Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare has repeated government’s commitment to the growth of the creative arts industry in the country.

Speaking at a special conference for the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers and the National Beauticians and Hairdressers Associations on Monday, November 14, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare said the government understands the creative arts sector and believes in its ability to contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development and the well-being of its people.
“We have put in great effort to promote the creative arts as a new growth area of the economy. We have done extensive consultations in all ten regions with creative arts practitioners such to enable us incorporate their views and concerns in the new creative industry bill. The draft bill, embodying your inputs and those of other industry practitioners and other will-meaning Ghanaians is now being put together by the attorney general’s department. The final draft will then be forwarded to cabinet for approval and thence to parliament,” she said.
She also assured members of the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers and the National Beauticians and Hairdressers Associations of government’s continuous support to help boost the sector.
According to her, members of the two associations play a very important role in developing the economy of the country and added that government was committed to complementing their efforts.
Mr Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, chairman of the event, said government identifies businesses such as hairdressing and dressmaking as the bedrock of the economy and that is why it is committed to their wellbeing.
