Looking to her as their motivator, many of the younger folk attempting the challenge of reaching the summit of Mount Afadza actually made it.
And they were happier for trying! If this 72-year-old lady who had become their muse, could do it, there was little reason why they, younger, and who must be fitter, could not do it.
But, many of them were not as fit, although, with a lot of brawl and resolve, they made it, and felt that sense of achievement one gets when one dares to overcome challenges.
It was a highly promoted tour as part of the Ghana Month celebration by the Multimedia Group, spearheaded by Joy 99.7FM.
And so it was that as many as 120 hikers, including the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, all heeded the call and trooped to the foothills of the great Afadzato.
They ascended the 2,900 high summit from Laiti Wote and descended on the Gbledzi Vordeme side, where the group settled for a Chill Party with the folks from the communities.
The folks thrilled them to some exciting traditional music and dance as they refreshed themselves after the strenuous climb!
It was a most interesting excursion and day out, and it included people of all ages.
Nanabayin Dennis, one of those who succeeded in climbing to the top, likened the challenge to overcoming life obstacles.
“For me the biggest lesson I learnt about the (climb) is that the biggest obstacle to anything happens in the mind!”.
“Travel opens the mind, and domestic travel and tourism strengthens an economy,” he said.
The Multimedia Group promised to support more domestic tourism programmes to help stimulate and build the sector and create an industry.
