The long wait is over and fans of sultry singer, Efya, will have the opportunity to enjoy a collection of good songs from her as she launches her debut album, Janesis today.
According to her, the wait is over and she is ready to serve her “thirsty” fans with her album which features some of Africa’s best artistes including Sarkodie, EL, Stonebwoy, Nigeria’s Shaydee and Ice Prince.
The 22-track album which will be launched at the plush Plot 7 Lounge, Nyaniba Estates, Accra, features songs such as Forgetting Me, Heart Beat, Can I, I Try, Hele Mi, Boy Bi Beh Gye, Once Upon a Time, Sometimes, Make I Love You, Ooh Ooh Ooh and Life.
Although she has churned out hit singles over the years, the four times Vodafone Ghana Music Awards(VGMA) Best Female Vocalist of the Year said she wanted to give her fans, a “gift of great music”, hence, the delay.
“For a formidable brand like Efya, my first album should represent the soul of Efya and the family across the continent should connect with it.
“I think the time is ripe and that is the reason for launching it now despite winning many awards with some of my songs in previous years,”she said in an interview with Showbiz on Tuesday.
Though she is known for singing, Efya gave some few rap lines on one of the song on the album, Getting You featuring Ice Prince to prove her versatiltity.
“I have been playing with the idea of rapping for a while now and I thought it would be a good ‘gift’ for my fans on my debut album.
“I want them to know the other side of me and experience the versatile Efya throwing some heavy punchlines,” she added.
Away from her music business, the award winning artiste touched on various subjects related to her personal life and one that came up was her alleged relationship with Sarkodie.
“Sarkodie and I have an awesome chemistry when we do music together and the feeling is just great. He has been a great inspiration and I always feel blessed to have him as a great friend.
“He has inspired me in many ways because I saw how he started from small beginnings and grown to become a global brand.
“Maybe, the inspiration we draw from each other’s talents works the chemistry when we are together,” she said.
Yes, she was one of the celebs who hit the streets last year in support of Yvonne Nelson’s #DumsorMustStop vigil, but the Gingam Too Much singer has revealed she is not interested in Ghanaian politics and wouldn’t endorse the political interests of any party.
“I’m not a fan of our politics here but as a Ghanaian citizen, it is my prayer that our politicians would drum home the message of peace before, during and after the elections this year,” she said.
Jane Fara Fauzzier Afia Boafowaa Yahaya Awindor known by her stage name Efya got her first exposure to fame when she participated in the maiden edition of the Stars of the Future talent show where she came third.
She won the Best Female Vocal Performance category at the VGMA for four consecutive years beginning 2011.
