Efya headlines Girl Talk

After weeks of speculation on which female artiste would headline this year’s Girl Talk Show, organisers of the event, EKB Records, put the matter to rest when Efya was introduced as the new lead act at the official launch of the concert at the Surfline’s LTE Lounge in Osu, Accra on Tuesday.

The Girl Talk concert, now known as Savannah Girl Talk, since its inception in 2011 has always been headlined by singer, Becca, who parted ways with EKB last year paving way to the speculations on who would replace her.

Speaking at the launch, Mr. Kiki Banson of EKB Records and the brain behind the concert, explained Girl Talk  was created for women in the arts and entertainment in general and not for one particular  female artiste.

According to him, the selection of Efya as the main performer for this year was premised on the many qualities she possesses as an artiste which reflected the aim of the concert which is to promote women empowerment.

“The crew had to scout the whole of Africa for a good replacement for Becca after her four-year contract ended last year.  The truth is that, we were looking for an artiste outside Ghana.

“However, I once watched Efya’s performance at a show and I realised she had all the qualities I needed. That was when we settled on her. She is a great performer and has what it takes to wow the patrons on the day,” he stated.

He also explained the Savannah Girl Talk show will in subsequent years celebrate the works of other women in the different sectors of the arts and entertainment apart from music.

An obviously excited Efya expressed her appreciation to the organisers for the confidence reposed in her to headline this year’s show. She described it as a “priceless baton” she has received and promised to give off her best.

“Music is my life. This is what I have been doing since childhood. I don’t want to talk much but what I want my fans and everybody out there to know is that Efya will give them a gingam show.

“ Well, I feel pressured now but I think it is not on the negative but a positive energy that is burning inside me to give off my best and I can’t wait for the day,” the Forgetting Me artiste noted.

Last year, the show was extended from a day’s affair to a three-day programme that was climaxed with the concert and there is a similar arrangement this year. The concert will be preceded by a two-day fair on Thursday, December 12 - 13.

The fair will among many other things have a special breast screening segment sponsored by the Breast Care International. It will also feature pep-talk on a variety of issues by prominent females in the society.

The Girl Talk Concert usually staged for only females has, however, featured some male artistes such as Funny Face, John Dumelo, Majid Michel, KOD, Kwabena Kwabena, Trigmatic, Prince David Osei, D-Black, Sonny Badu and MI from Nigeria.

This year’s event which is the fifth edition is sponsored by the alcoholic beverage, Savannah Dry, Surfline and Breast Care Interntaional.
