DJ Sly King earns another nomination in DJ of the Year award
Once again, host of YFM’s Touch Down, DJ Sly King is in contention for the top award of DJ of the Year at Ghana DJ awards 2023 to take place at the Grand Arena in Accra on Saturday, November 25.
Sly King is in tough competition with DJ Nyce, DJ Mac Tonto, DJ Vyrusky, DJ Faculty and DJ Lord OTB.
He also earned spots in other categories such as Best Male Radio DJ, Afrobeats DJ and DJ/Artiste collaboration of the year.
DJ Sly King’s latest feat comes only just a year after “saving” Ghana at the 2022 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) when he was nominated for the Best DJ Africa award, being the only Ghanaian artist earning a nomination at the awards ceremony.
For years, the artist whose real name is Gideon Alorgbey has continued to ink his name on the minds of music enthusiasts having worked with the likes of Nigeria’s Ckay, Teni, Ice Prince and in Ghana, Wendy Shay, Fameye, Daphne, DopeNation, VVIP among others.
In a chat with Graphic Showbiz, DJ Sly King mentioned that even though this is the not the first time he has received nominations at Ghana DJ Awards, he was excited to be competing for the biggest award on the night.
“It has been a long way but I am here today because of perseverance, consistency and hard work. It is even more heartwarming to be the artiste with the highest nominations,” he stated.
Nominations for this year’s edition of Ghana DJ Awards themed, “Moved by Music” opened on Friday, September 1 and closed on September 29.
There are 32 awards to be given out in various categories including DJ/Artist Collaboration of the Year, Discovery of the Year, MC Hypeman of the Year, Event DJ of the Year, Artist DJ of the Year and Best Young DJ and Lifetime Achievement award. Lucy Banini will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
In the last 11 years, the annual awards scheme organised by Merqury Republic has thrown the spotlight on the role of Disc Jockeys (DJs) in the music space and celebrated their works.
