In an interview, Bukom Banku said if their bout was indeed the cause for the floods, then the gods should have killed him together with his family also.

He said if the gods really cared about the people, they would not watch for innocent people die.

He dared the Ga Traditional Council to tell him in the face that their May 15, 2014 fight was to blame for the death of 159 people on June 3, 2015.

“If Ga Traditional say Ayittey Powers and Bukom Banku bout killing [sic] the persons in the Circle, I want the people to come my face…come tell me that [sic] me I kill the people in the Circle,” he said.

“You have gods, if something come to the Circle, you tell your gods to stop it. You stay there and you tell me that me and Ayittey Powers bout kill the people. I have eleven pikings, tell the gods to come kill my pikings or my wife. Why the gods leaving me and my wife to go killing the innocent people.” [sic]

The Ga Traditional Council at a press conference on Thursday listed a number of national disasters including the May 9 occurrence as punishments from the gods of the land on football fans who trooped the Accra Sports Stadium to watch a football match between Accra Hearts of Oak and Kumasi Asante Kotoko.

According to them, the fans lost their lives because they flouted the ban on drumming and noise making.
